The New Gallery Association supports and promotes Romanian and international contemporary art. The association’s activities cover three main programmes: publications, education, exhibitions and events dedicated to contemporary art. The association is nationally recognized as one of the first cultural organizations of contemporary art in Romania to support young artists’ projects at a time when international funding and supporting partnerships were still rare in the European area. Nowadays, Galeria Nouă organizes exhibitions in collaboration with galleries, museums and contemporary art centres in Romania and Europe with the aim to present the Romanian public and the artistic community with the latest international trends and concepts in contemporary visual art, as well as to promote Romanian and international artists who already enjoy notoriety and to discover and support young artists. Galeria Nouă functions as a meeting and information place on contemporary art, initiating debates, round tables and presentations, important publications on the history of recent Romanian art. The important role of the association was also recently described in an exhibition about important art institutions in Romania, held at BRD Scena9, as part of the NAG Special Project Artist-run culture – critique, resistance, escape, curated by Igor Mocan in 2018.

The project “Blue Sun. Conversations on art, science, and ecology” benefits from a 93960 Euro grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants.

The EEA and Norway Grants represent the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe. There are two overall objectives: reduction of economic and social disparities in Europe, and to
strengthen bilateral relations between the donor countries and 15 EU countries in Central and Southern Europe and the Baltics. The three donor countries cooperate closely with the EU through the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA). The donors have provided €3.3 billion through consecutive grant schemes between 1994 and 2014. For the period 2014-2021, the EEA and Norway Grants amount to €2.8 billion.
